Job Title: Assistant Rural Practice Surveyor
Reports to (Job Title): Head of Land Agency Department
Offices: Bedford or Ipswich
Department/Section: Land Agency
Main purpose of job:
To assist and support the land agency team in providing advice to farmers and landowners on a broad range of rural property matters. Based in either our Bedford office or Ipswich we are looking for TWO graduates to join our expanding team.
Key responsibilities:
1. Under supervision, to provide general property advice and information to farmers and landowners dependant on level of experience.
2. To assist with advising on landlord and tenant matters including lettings and rent reviews.
3. To assist with land and estate management including insurance agency, water and sporting rights, rights of way and environmental and conservation matters.
4. To assist with valuations of rural land and property, crops, machinery and livestock for lending and tax purposes.
5. To assist with completing Single Payment Scheme forms, subsidies and grants for clients.
6. To assist in the provision of advice on compensation for compulsory purchase, wayleaves and easements.
7. To research regulations and areas of concern to clients and partners in order to provide accurate advice and guidance.
8. To build and maintain good relationships with clients and the rural community and to be well informed on all issues affecting the countryside.
9. To assist, when required, with the promotion and marketing of the firm through attendance at events and seminars, preparation of publicity material and with other publicity campaigns as required.
10. From time to time, to carry out any other duties as reasonably requested by the partners or other managers.
Applicant Profile
Knowledge
Background knowledge of agricultural and rural affairs
Knowledge of rural surveying issues
Experience
Experience of working in either an office or agricultural environment
Experience of working in a rural practice surveying firm would be advantageous
Qualifications
RICS Accredited Degree - Rural Practice specialisation
Skills/Aptitude
IT – use of Microsoft Office packages to intermediate level
Good levels of numeracy and literacy
Good verbal and written communication skills
Attention to detail
Ability to work a part of a team
Ability to organise and manage self
Ability to deal with and tackle a range of problems
Ability to deal with people at all levels
Ability to demonstrate initiative whilst working within guidelines

Other Characteristics
Must have a genuine interest in agriculture and the countryside
Must be willing and able to travel in the UK and work some unsocial hours, including occasional Saturdays.
