Working on behalf of Bedfordia Farms Ltd, Robinson & Hall has recently been successful in obtaining consent for a new state of the art pig breeding unit to the north of Bedford.
The new unit will incorporate the latest designs to maximise energy efficiency whilst achieving improved standards of animal welfare.
The new buildings, which have an overall floor area of 3500m2 will house the same number of breeding sows and piglets as are currently on the Farm. In addition 200 replacement gilts (30-120KG) (female breeding stock) born on site which were previously reared off site will now be housed in the new buildings. The application was discussed at Bedford Borough Council’s Development Management Committee meeting and received wide support from the Members.
David Sawford at Robinson & Hall commented on the success of the project so far. “We are delighted that a significant project of this nature has gained the support of the Council.”
The project will help to ensure that Bedfordia Farms will remain at the forefront in livestock building design and will continue to strive to reduce its carbon footprint whilst achieving an overall improvement in the standard of livestock accommodation.
